A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA DESIGNATING THE
800, 900 AND 1000 BLOCKS OF LINCOLN ROAD AS
THE ARTS DISTRICT.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
THAT,
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach has supported'
and funded the South Florida Art Center and the Colony Theatre as cultural, artistic,
entertainment, educational and economic development activities and programs for Lincoln
Road;
WHEREAS, the South Florida Art Center and the Colony Theatre
contribute to the advancement of the arts on Miami Beach and on Lincoln Road;
WHEREAS, the South Florida Art Center and the Colony Theatre are in the
process of establishing relationships with area educational institutions to provide training.
and education in the arts;
WHEREAS, the Colony Theatre and the South Florida Art center are
attracting other artists and arts-oriented endeavors to this end of Lincoln Road, thereby
further contributing to the arts on Miami Beach;
WHEREAS, The South Florida Art Center and the Colony Theatre are
recognized as important economic development effort to improve the retail and commercial
climate for redevelopment on Lincoln Road and to attract visitors, customers and others to
this area of Lincoln Road and have been funded through the City"s Community Development
Block Grant program as special economic development projects;
WHEREAS, it is also recognized that other developments will and should
occur on the west end of Lincoln Road including, but not limited to, office, residential,
retail and commercial uses and that the City will continue to foster such development in
this area;
WHEREAS, The South Florida Art Center and the Colony Theatre are
located within the 800,900 and 1000 blocks of Lincoln Road;
NOW, THEREFORE be it duly resolved by the City Commission of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida that the 800,900 and 1000 blocks of Lincoln Road shall be
designated as the Arts District, recognized as such and referred to as such, where
appropriate, in informational literature regarding Lincoln Road and the City of Miami
Beach.
