Clark Center 111 N.W, 1st Street, 29th Floor Miami, Florida 33128 Honorable Mayor Alex Penelas: Attached for your attention is a copy of Resolution 2002-24956 adopted by the City of Miami Beach Commission at its meeting of September 11, 2002 opposing the proposed reduction of funding for beach maintenance in the proposed Miami-Dade County FY2002l03 budget. HAND DELIVERED As you know the beaches in Miami-Dade County and, in particular, in the City of Miami Beach, are world-renowned and are a major attraction to residents and tourists alike. The City believes the beaches to be an extremely important economic asset for South Florida and are one of the most important economic generators for the entire region and, therefore, should be kept clean and litter free at all times. We are concerned that the proposed decrease in both the operating and capital funding for beach maintenance in your proposed FY 2002/03 budget will reduce the current level of service provided on the beaches and will negatively impact the appearance, cleanliness, and sanitation services for our beaches especially during weekends and holidays when there is the highest utilization of the beaches. I urge the Miami-Dade County Commission not to reduce the operating and capital funding for beach maintenance and ask all coastal cities in Miami-Dade County to join with the City of Miami Beach in opposing the reduction of beach maintenance funding. It i requested that this concern be considered during your budget hearings. c. Mayor Davis, Miami Shores )( Mayor Diaz.
