Gonzalez ~.,,A~,'''''~ City Manager ARTS, CULTURE AND ENTERT,AINMENT (ACE) Date: August 27, 2002 The purpose of this LTC is to advise you that James Quinlan has resigned as the Director of the Office of Arts, Culture and Entertainment (ACE) effective September 20, 2002. James has contributed to the City of Miami Beach, overseeing the Film and Print, Special Events and Art in Public Places Divisions within ACE over the past six years. James was a key player in developing the City's Arts, Film and Print, and Special Events initiatives. His contribution to our City's successes in these areas are greatly appreciated. I am sure you will join me in wishing James the best of luck in his future endeavors. I have appointed Major Tom Weschler from our Police Department to serve as the Interim Director of,ACE until a permanent replacement is found. Tom will work with James and the ,ACE staff to ensure a smooth transition that will continue to focus on ACE's goals and objectives. Tom Weschler has served as the Police Major over the Special Services Division since October 2001. This Unit will now be handled by the Police Major of Support Services during this transition period. Major Wechsler has a long history with the City of Miami Beach and among other things has participated in the Major Events Planning (MEP) process, the Nightlife Industry Task Force with responsibility over the Police Off-Duty Office, has been involved with Art Miami over the past eight years, and most recently attended Art Basel as part of his oversight responsibility with this important event which debuts in Miami Beach this December.
