Gonzalez ~,, / City Manager ~_ LABOR DAY WEEKEND Date: August 27, 2002 The purpose of this LTC is to inform the Mayor and Commission on the City's plans for the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend. In keeping with the City's planning for major events and holiday weekends, the Administration has been closely monitoring the activities planned for Labor Day Weekend. Other than the annual Home Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center, there are no special public events scheduled throughout the City for this holiday weekend. However, some nightclubs that have a 5:00 a.m. liquor license will be extending their hours of operation to 7:00 a.m. If there are any problems during the weekend, the extended hours may be rescinded by the City Manager. Events at Public Venues: Miami Beach Convention Center: Home Design and Remodeling Show Friday, August 30 through Tuesday, September 3, 2002 (Friday, 6:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon to 10:30 p.m.; Monday, noon to 7:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). Expected attendance at this event over the course of the weekend is 25,000. Department Staffina: Enhanced staffing will be provided throughout the weekend by the Police, Fire, Code Compliance, and Sanitation Departments. Information Hotlines: A 24-hour information hotline (305-673-7400) will be in operation. A brochure welcoming our visitors, providing a map and important contact information, and explaining some of the City and State laws will be distributed throughout the weekend and will be available in hotels throughout the City.
