LTC 230-2002 CITY OF MIAMI BEACH Office of the City Manager Letter to Commission No. To: From: Subject: Honorable Mayor David Dermer and Members of the City Commission Jorge M. Gonzalez City Manager Altos Del Mar Date: October 9, 2002 The purpose of this LTC is to update the Mayor and City Commission on the status of the Altos Del Mar lots in North Beach. On August 13, 2002, the Florida Cabinet approved the sale of southeast oceanfront lot in Altos Del Mar for $1.2 million. The sale was contingent upon a deed restriction prohibiting the construction of anything other than single family housing, and the Cabinet told the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that they would like to see the same restriction applied to the remaining lots. On October 8, 2002, the Cabinet approved the sale of the remaining lots to General Real Estate Corporation of Miami for $7,550,000, with the single-family deed restriction. This sale is scheduled to close on November 30. The Administration and the City's lobbyists are now working with DEP on the transfer of the 11 contiguous lots to the City. According to the Bureau Chief of State Lands, this transfer will occur at the same time as the closing on November 30 and requires no further action by the Cabinet. On July 26, 2000, the Mayor and City Commission approved Resolution 2000-24030, authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Professional Services Agreement in the amount of $232,410 with the firm of Falcon and Bueno to provide architectural, engineering, construction documentation and development of specifications for the Altos Del Mar Park project. Upon completion of the transfer of land from the State, the Administration will execute the contract with Falcon and Bueno and proceed with the design process for the park.
