RESOLUTION NO. 74-14509
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, CALLING
FOR ELIMINATION OF DISCRIMINATION IN AIR
FARE CHARGES.
WHEREAS, tourism and related industries constitute a
large portion of the economy of the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS , tourist resorts and tourist attractions in
the State of Florida are in direct competition with numerous
domestic and foreign tourist areas; and
WHEREAS , air fares from numerous cities in the United
States to resorts other than Florida are less expensive per
mile than the air fares to Florida cities; and
WHEREAS , these discriminatory air fares favor
competing resort areas to the detriment of the Florida tourist
industries; and
WHEREAS , no defensible reasons exist for favoring
competing resort areas at the expense of the citizens of the
State of Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
1. That the City Council of the City of Miami Beach
hereby goes on record as opposing the discriminatory air fares
which favor competing resort areas at the expense of the
tourist industry of the State of Florida.
2. That they call upon the Governor of the State of
Florida, members of the Cabinet of the State of Florida, the
United States Senators and Congressmen from the State of
Florida, and the State Senators and Representatives to join in
a collective effort to call for elimination of discriminatory
air fares favoring other resort areas over destinations in the
State of Florida.
3. That the Florida League of Cities , Inc. , in
Convention at Tampa, Florida, October 24-26 , 1974 , be and it
is respectfully requested to adopt its own appropriate
Resolution calling for the action herein described.
4 . That the City Clerk of the City of Miami Beach is
hereby instructed to send copies of this Resolution to the
State and Federal officials listed above and to publish a copy
of this Resolution in a forthcoming issue of the Florida
Municipal Record and to make such other distribution of this
Resolution as shall accomplish the purposes hereof.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 16th da of October , 1974 .
