A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE CERTIFICATE OF THE
CANVASSING COMMITTEE AS TO THE RESULTS OF THE
NOVEMBER 3, 1981 GENERAL AND SPECIAL ELECTIONS;
DECLARING RESULTS THEREOF.
WHEREAS, there has been submitted to the City Commission of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida the Certificate of two members of said City Commission
and the City Clerk as the Canvassing Committee of said City Commission as to
the results of the canvass of the returns of the General and Special Elections
held in said City on November 3, 1981, and
WHEREAS, the said Canvassing Committee has duly canvassed said returns
and certified the returns of said Elections;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it hereby adopts the said Certificate as to the
results of said Elections and it is hereby ordered that the same Certificate
and this Resolution be recorded in the minutes of this meeting as a permanent
record of the results of said Elections;
AND IT IS FURTHER FOUND, DETERMINED AND RESOLVED that the following
candidates for Mayor and City Commissioner, Groups I, II, III, IV, V, and VI
received the highest number of votes cast, and are hereby declared ELECTED:

We, the undersigned two members of the City Commission and the City Clerk of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, do hereby certify that we have made a canvass
of the returns of the General and Special Elections held in Miami Beach,
Florida, on November 3, 1981, as conducted by the Clerks and Inspectors who
were duly appointed by the Metropolitan Dade County Supervisor of Elections;
and as reflected by certification received from the Supervisor of Elections
of Dade County, Florida; such canvass having been made solely, exclusively
and entirely from such returns and certification; and DO HEREBY CERTIFY that
as a result of said canvass, we have found and DO HEREBY DECLARE the results
of said elections to be as follows:
THAT there were a total of 25,990 votes cast.

I
Shall the City of Miami Beach issue general obligation bonds in an amount
not to exceed eighteen million dollars ($18,000,000.00) , bearing interest
at a rate or rates as may be determined at the time of the sale thereof,
not exceeding the maximum legal rate of interest at such time, for the
acquisition of land and the construction and furnishing of a Justice Center
building thereon, said Justice Center to contain a police station, jail,
courtroom, and facilities related to the foregoing?
12,451 votes were cast FOR
5,174 votes were cast AGAINST
That upon Question No. 2
Shall Chapter 23414, Laws of Florida, Special Acts of 1945, as amended,
being Article XVIII of the Charter of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
and appearing as Sections 121 through 150 thereof, be amended in such manner
so as to provide a cost of living increase in pensions being paid to present
and future pensioners and beneficiaries under the Police and Firemen's
Pension System?

That upon Question No. 3
Shall the following Ordinance exercising the rights of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, to purchase the property owned by Florida Power and Light
within the corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach be enacted?
Be it ordained by the people of Miami Beach, Dade County, Florida:
Section 1: At the date of expiration of the franchise agreement between the
City of Miami Beach and Florida Power and Light Company on December 5, 1981,
the City will exercise its rights under the agreement and purchase the
property owned and operated by Florida Power and Light Company within the
corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach, in compliance with Ordinance No. 995
of December 5, 1951, and in compliance with Section 48 of the City Charter.
Section 2: At some date shortly after the purchase of the property owned by
Florida Power and Light, the City of Miami Beach shall begin to supply and
maintain all the electrical service to the City and its inhabitants, and
continue to pledge a percentage of gross receipts for excise tax bonds,
series 1969, as required by Council Resolution No. 12650, February 25, 1969.
