A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA CREATING AN AD HOC
MAYOR'S TASK FORCE ON CRIME.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, combating crime within the City of Miami Beach
must be among the highest priorities of the Miami Beach City Commis-
sion; and
WHEREAS, the crime crisis calls for prompt and definitive
action; and
WHEREAS, an emergency task force of citizens and public
servants is necessary for the development and implementation of
solutions to the crisis; and
WHEREAS, at least two members of the Commission, to wit
Mayor Norman Ciment and Commissioner Malcolm Fromberg, have formu-
lated plans for such a task force;
THEREFORE, the Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, Florida
does hereby establish the "Mayor ' s Task Force on Crime, " to serve as
an ad hoc advisory committee for a period of two years, to commence
forthwith to conduct meetings on a monthly or more frequent basis
and to report regularly to the Miami Beach Police Chief and City
Commission its proposals for action, and shall be comprised of the
following persons:
1. The Honorable Seymour Gelber (Circuit Judge, Dade County
and Chairman Dade-Miami Criminal Justice Council) ;
2. Rocky Pomerance (former City of Miami Beach Police Chief
and Founding Chairman of the New Hope Committee) ;
3. Miami Beach Chief of Police, or his designee;
4 . David Nevel (Vice President, Fraternal Order of Police
Associates) ;
5. Stanley Rosenblatt (Attorney) ;
6 . Dr . Richard Schwarz;
7. Rabbi Phineas Weberman;
8 . Four other persons to be appointed by the Mayor .
9 . Mayor Norman Ciment and Commissioner Malcolm Fromberg as
ex officio members.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Miami Beach City
Commission does further authorize and empower said task force as an
Ad Hoc Committee of this City Commission, and does mandate said task
force to commence its activities forthwith in accordance with the
purposes, goals and procedures as set forth above.
