A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH DESIGNATING FEBRUARY 24 , 1982 , AS
MIAMI BEACH STUDENT SOLIDARITY DAY FOR SOVIET
JEWRY.
WHEREAS, it is the cornerstone of democratic self-
determination that all human beings are endowed with an inal-
ienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness;
and
WHEREAS, the government of the Soviet Union denies
to Soviet Jewry these inalienable rights; and
WHEREAS, the observance of such basic human rights
by all governments is fundamental to world peace and stability;
and
WHEREAS, by denying the right of emigration to Soviet
Jewry they remain prisoners within their homeland.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that February
24 , 1982 , be designated Miami Beach Student Solidarity Day for
Soviet Jews , a day formulated for Students to dedicate themselves
to the creation of human rights in the Soviet Union and through-
out the world for all people of all nations.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 17th day of February , 1982 .
