Resolution 82-16936 7 RESOLUTION NO. 82-16936 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO INSURE THE MIAMI BEACH BOXING COMMISSION' S CONTINUED EXISTENCE AND CONTROL OVER BOXING WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH. WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, Florida, has a Boxing Commission; and WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Boxing Commission has been in existence for 47 years; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Boxing Commission has properly regulated and controlled the sport of boxing on Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 13 , if adopted as State law, would deprive the Boxing Commission of its regulatory power , in that the proposed State Boxing Commission would have sole direction, control and jurisdiction over all amateur and professional boxing contests within the State; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach seeks to preserve the existence and continued successful operation of the Miami Beach Boxing Commission; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Florida Legislature is requested and urged to defeat and reject Senate Bill 13 or , in the alternative, amend Senate Bill 13 to exempt the Miami Beach Boxing Commission and other similarly situated local commissions from state preemptive control.
