Resolution 82-16950 RESOLUTION NO. 82-16950 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, MEMORIALIZING THE FLORIDA STATE LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT A ONE CENT ($. 01) SALES TAX AND TO EQUITABLY DISTRIBUTE SAID TAX REVENUES RAISED AMONG THE COUNTIES AND MUNICIPALITIES IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA, BY TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE GREATER POPULATION AND DISPROPORTIONATE LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPENSES OF MUNICIPALITIES WITHIN DADE COUNTY, INCLUDING THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH. WHEREAS, Dade County and City of Miami Beach taxpayers have incurred disproportionately large ad valorem tax obligations to fund law enforcement and tourism-related services, which are of benefit to the entire state; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature is now considering a bill to increase the state sales tax by 1% ($. 01) ; and WHEREAS, it has been proposed to divide the revenues of said sales tax between the State, County, and municipal governments in order to alleviate an ever increasing ad valorem tax burden on Florida property owners; and WHEREAS, Dade County and its municipalities have the largest resident populations of any county in the State, and has incurred disproportionate ad valorem tax obligations, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISISON OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Florida State Legislature be memorialized to support a sales tax bill providing equitable distribution between all counties and municipalities in the State of Florida by taking into consideration the relative ad valorem tax contribution of taxpayers residing in Dade County and its municipalities and the disproportionate cost of law enforcement expenses incurred by such taxpayers, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Dade County Commission is urged to seek, by appropriate means, the relief requested in this Resolution.
