RESOLUTION NO. 82-16974
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA TO URGENTLY REQUEST DADE
COUNTY TO REJECT THE LAKE LUCERNE SITE AS THE
LOCATION FOR A NEW SPORTS STADIUM AND TO
RECOMMEND A SITE MORE CENTRALLY LOCATED WITHIN
DADE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the Sports Authority, in concert with Broward
County, is gearing their efforts to build a sports stadium at the
Dade-Broward County line; and
WHEREAS, Broward County would, to a large degree, derive
the benefits from the Sports Stadium in that Broward County 's
hotels, restaurants and recreation facilities would be in much
closer proximity to the stadium; and
WHEREAS, such location would have a negative economic
impact on Dade County in terms of lost tourist revenue;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida to urgently request Dade County to
reject the Lake Lucerne site as the location for a new sports
stadium and to recommend a site more centrally located within Dade
County.
