Resolution 82-16985 7 „-- I RESOLUTION NO. 82-16985 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING PUBLICA- TION AND/OR POSTING BY CITY DEPARTMENTS OF CRITICAL CITY NOTICES IN THE PRIMARY NATIVE LAN- GUAGE OF ANY GROUP OF VOTERS WITHIN THE CITY CONSTITUTING 10% OR MORE OF THE CITY ELECTORATE. SECTION 1 LEGISLATIVE PURPOSE As an enlightened community, the City of Miami Beach appreciates and respects the cultural and linguistic differences which flourish in this international area. The City Commission is cognizant that this City may contain one or more non-English speaking linguistic groups which constitute 10% or more of the City ' s electorate. These groups are, in many instances, comprised of long-standing City residents , who are clearly entitled to be informed of matters of importance to City government to the same extent as native English-speaking resi- dents. This resolution is therefore designed to encourage the City Administration to notify such groups, in their native language , of important issues affecting City government. SECTION 2 RESOLUTION NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City Administration, whenever fea- sible, should advertise, publish or display public notices of criti- cal importance to the public in the primary language of any group of City voters constituting 10% or more of the City' s electorate which has resided in the City one year or longer , based on the latest cen- sus or other reliable City population data.
