Resolution 82-16990 RESOLUTION NO. 82-16990 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATION TO CONTINUE EXPLORING THE FEASIBILITY OF SEWAGE TREATMENT THROUGH DEEP CURRENT ASSIMILATION. WHEREAS the Environmental Protection Agency has amended its regulations wherein it allows for ocean outfall distribution of less than secondary treatment, and WHEREAS the Environmental Agency allows for pilot projects for ocean outfall discharge with less than secondary treatment, and WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach has received a preliminary feasibility study pertaining to deep current sewage assimilation indicating the future feasibility of such project, and WHEREAS the Administration is presently negotiating with the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Authority in conjunction with its rate increase for treatment of sewage at Virginia Key, and WHEREAS there have been efforts on the part of the State Legislature to amend the State law requiring secondary treatment for ocean outfall discharge, and WHEREAS changes can be anticipated in the Florida law and regulations requiring secondary treatment for ocean outfalls; and WHEREAS the interest rates for bonded indebtedness may be reduced, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it hereby directs the Administration to pursue the feasibility of implementing a deep current assimilation project for treatment of sewage.
