A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTH-
ORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER
TO REQUEST METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY TO
PROVIDE FUNDS TO ASSIST WITH PHASE I OF
THE BEACHFRONT PARK AND PROMENADE
PROJECT IN THE AMOUNT OF FIVE PERCENT
(5%) OF TOTAL PROJECT COSTS AND TO DE-
SIGNATE A PORTION OF NEWLY APPROPRIATED
STATE ALLOCATED BEACH RE-VEGETATION
FUNDS FOR USE WITHIN MIAMI BEACH TO
EXPAND THE RE-VEGETATION EFFORTS OF
THE BEACHFRONT PARK AND PROMENADE
PROJECT.
WHEREAS, for reasons more particularly set forth in Commission Memo-
randum No. 310-82 , the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach deems it in the
best interests of the citizens of Miami Beach to request funding from Metropolitan Dade
County to assist with the Beachfront Park and Promenade Project in the amount of five
percent (5%) of the total project costs up to $157,263; and
WHEREAS, the Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted
Resolution No. R-878-79 on July 3, 1979 authorizing the expenditure of up to $250,000
of Decade of Progress Bond Funds to assist the City of Miami Beach with the Beachfront
Park and Promenade Project; and
WHEREAS, Dade County Officials have indicated that because the
Beachfront Park and Promenade is being funded through a Land and Water Conservation
Grant rather Urban Parks and Recreation Grant Funds that the County Board of Com-
missioners will have to adopt a new resolution regarding County Assistance in the funding
of the Beachfront Park and Promenade; and
WHEREAS, Metropolitan Dade County is to receive $1,500,000 in State
Department of Natural Resources funds for beach re-vegetation efforts; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends that the City actively seek
funding from Metropolitan Dade County to assist in the construction of the City's Beach-
front Park and Promenade and to expend a portion of State allocated re-vegetation funds
within the City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED, by the City Commission
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the City Manager be authorized and directed
to make these requests for and on behalf of the City of Miami Beach, Florida.
