2018-30223 ResolutionRESOLUTION NO. 2018 -30223 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE FINANCE AND CITYWIDE PROJECTS COMMITTEE TO INCLUDE A COMPETITION -SIZED POOL (AQUATIC COMPLEX) IN THE FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE PROPOSED 72ND STREET MIXED USE PROJECT. WHEREAS, on April 26, 2017, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2017- 29843, directing the Administration to proceed with a Consultant Service Order to engage Desman, Inc. to prepare a feasibility study for a parking garage structure and a new recreational park (including a skate park and community use space), at the City P92 parking lot located on 72nd Street, between Collins Avenue and Abbott Avenue (the "72nd Street Project "); and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2018, the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee ( "Finance Committee ") favorably recommended that the Office of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) include a competition -sized pool (aquatic complex) in the feasibility study for the 72nd Street Project, to permit the City to evaluate options with respect to incorporating a competition -sized pool as part of the Project; and WHEREAS, once the feasibility study is concluded, the Finance Committee requested that CIP return to the Finance Committee with a recommendation and alternatives, including options with respect to different types of pools. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and City Commission hereby accept the recommendation of the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee (FCWPC) to include a competition -sized pool (aquatic complex) in the feasibility study for the 72nd Street mixed use project. ,,,��l AA / PASSED and ADOPTED this 7 day of Vr rc A , 2018. RECOMMENDATION The Administration recommends that the City Commission approve the resolution. ANALYSIS On April 26, 2017, the City Commission adopted Resolution 2017 -29843 directing the Administration to proceed with a consultant service order to engage Desman, Inc. to prepare a feasibility study for a parking garage structure and a new recreational park with a skate park and community use space, at the 72nd street parking lot site between 72nd and 73rd Streets. At the February 23, 2018 FCWPC meeting, the committee favorably recommended to the City Commission that the Office of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) include a competition -sized pool (aquatic complex) in the feasibility study for the 72nd Street mixed use project. The FCWPC requested that CIP return with a recommendation and include alternatives, including different types of pools. CONCLUSION The Administration recommends that the City Commission approve the resolution.
