Morales, City Manager DATE: March 22, 2018 SUBJECT: Miami Beach Hall of Fame Updat LETT R TO COMMISSION The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide you with an update on the Miami Beach Hall of Fame. At the September 25, 2017 City Commission meeting, a motion was made to adopt Resolution No. 2017-29987 that established criteria for the Miami Beach Hall of Fame and designated the Miami Beach Convention Center South Concourse wall as the location for this permanent installment. It was further directed that the Hall of Fame open simultaneously with the grand opening of the Convention Center. As such, staff is working to include the Miami Beach Hall of Fame project as part of the FY 18-19 budget process. In accordance with the memorandum detailing the process for establishing the Hall of Fame Committee and making selections of inductees, the City has established a repeating selection process and induction timeline as detailed below. In order to adhere to these dates, a Commission - appointed Selection Committee should be established by April 1, 2018. The annual process is noted as follows: April: Select Committee convenes June 1-30: Nomination packages submitted to the City Clerk Deadline for submissions is June 30th of each year July: First review meeting of the Selection Committee August: Second review and recommendation meeting of the Selection Committee September Selection Committee recommendations presented to City Commission for review/ratification November Annual event to induct new honorees Further, the following guidelines were adopted for establishing the Selection Committee: Selection Committee • Create a nine member Commission -appointed Selection Committee for the Hall of Fame, plus two at large members from the local community. Appointees should be knowledgeable in the following fields of expertise: 1. Business 2. Education 3. Arts & Entertainment 4. Philanthropy 5. Sports 6. Public Service 7. Literature/History In order to meet the timeframe outlined above, I am requesting that you email the names of your direct appointments to the Hall of Fame Selection Committee to Eva Silverstein as soon as possible and that appointments for the at -large positions be made at the next Commission meeting.
