A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO APPLY TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH FOR GRANT
FUNDS FOR A DEVELOPMENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM FOR
MENTALLY RETARDED ADULTS
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach desires to apply to the State of Florida
Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services for grant funds for a Developmental
Training Program for Mentally Retarded Adults, on behalf of the City of Miami Beach
Department of Community Affairs and Human Services; and
WHEREAS, said Program is planned for forty (40) adult mental retardates for
fifty-two (52) weeks a year, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at
the Log Cabin, a Department of Community Affairs and Human Services facility of
the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has estimated that program costs will
amount to approximately $225,596, and will provide for all costs of the Program,
including personnel, materials, supplies and transportation; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach will not be obligated to continue the
Program if grant funds are not approved; and
WHEREAS, the source of the funds will be 75% Federal, 12Y2% State, and 12Y2%
match from the City of Miami Beach in the form of employee fringe benefits and in-
kind services and support.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager be and he is hereby
authorized, directed and empowered, as the designated official of the City of Miami
Beach, to make application to the State of Florida Department of Health and
Rehabilitative Services for grant funds for the Developmental Training Program for
Mentally Retarded Adults, as herein above set forth, for and on behalf of the City of
Miami Beach in connection with all matters executed pursuant hereto.

SUBJECT: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO

REHABILITATIVE SERVICES ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF

MIAMI BEACH ACTIVITY CENTER FOR MENTALLY
RETARDED ADULTS.
The attached Resolution requests approval authorizing the City Manager to apply to
the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services for grant funds for a
Developmental Training Program for Mentally Retarded Adults on behalf of the City
of Miami Beach.
This program serves 40 clients and is located at the Log Cabin at 8128 Collins Avenue.
The program has been operative since 1975. The City is requesting grant funds
totalling $225,596, which will provide for all expenses of the program.
Source of funds will be 75% Federal, 12Y2% State, and 12Y2% match from the City of
Miami Beach in the form of employee fringe benefits and in-kind services and support.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends approval of this Resolution. This is an on-going
program and its continuity is critical to meeting the special needs of the retarded
adult clients in the program.
