RESOLUTION NO. 82-17108
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE
FLORIDA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION TO DENY
FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY ANY INCREASE IN
RATES FOR ELECTRICITY.
WHEREAS, there is presently a recession in this country;
and
WHEREAS , most people are finding it very difficult to pay
all their bills; and
WHEREAS , Miami Beach residents as well as other
Floridians, are already paying outrageous rates for electric power;
and
WHEREAS , earnings are down for every major company listed
on the New York and American stock exchanges; and
WHEREAS , Florida Power and Light Company has earned
phenomenal and excessive profits this year at the expense of every
resident of Florida who must use electricity supplied exclusively
by Florida Power and Light; and
WHEREAS , this City Commission feels very strongly that
the rates for electricity should not be increased to further the
excessive profits of Florida Power and Light Company;
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that they request the Florida
Public Service Commission to deny Florida Power and Light Company
any increase in rates for electricity.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 1st day of September , 1982.
