A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA SUPPORTING AND ENCOUR-
AGING THE FILM INDUSTRY AND OFFERING THE USE OF
MIAMI BEACH AS THE LOCATION FOR FILM PRODUC-
TION.
WHEREAS , anticipated production of the movie "Scarface"
has been confronted with criticism from persons wishing to halt the
filming of that movie; and
WHEREAS , the City of Miami Beach, does not support cen-
sorship of the film industry, but in recognition that the film
industry is an asset to the community, absolutely stands behind the
freedom of expression due the arts; and
WHEREAS , the City of Miami Beach is willing to assist
movie makers by acting as liaison between the film industry and the
public in an effort to get the public and private support the film
industry is deserving of; and
WHEREAS , the City of Miami Beach encourages films to be
made all over Dade County and opens its doors and welcomes the
entire film industry to take advantage of the public facilities
located in the tropic locale of Miami Beach for the site of future
films;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMIS-
SION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it wholeheartedly
supports and welcomes the film industry to the City of Miami Beach
for the site of motion pictures and will encourage each City and
County Commission in Dade County to similarly officially record
their support of these findings.
