LETTER TO COMMISSION
Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commission
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide you with an update on the closure of Rue
Vendome in the North Beach neighborhood. Staff will be permanently closing off Rue Vendome
on Friday, March 31, 2018. At this time the road will be cleaned and barricaded on each side to
prevent further parking. Beginning on Monday, April 2nd Staff in partnership with the urban
design firm, Street Plans will begin the beautification of the surface parking lot. An art deco
sunburst mural will be painted on Rue Vendome. In addition, Property Management will be
hanging outdoor lights over the space to enhance lighting and increase pedestrian activity within
Normandy Isle this weekend.
The completed mural and unveiling will occur on Friday, April 6th to be celebrated at the First
Friday community event. Staff from Economic Development are working alongside members of
the Communications team to create public flyers and messaging to encourage residents in
North Beach to come see their new, vibrant public space.
