Resolution 4564 RESOLUTION NO. 4564 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE NATIONAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE TO UNDERTAKE A SURVEY OF THE WATER RESOURCES AVAIL- ABLE IN THIS AREA AND PROVIDING FOR. THE PARTICIPATION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH IN THE COST OF SAID SURVEY. WHEREAS, as a result of preliminary studies over the past three years the public water supply problems of the Greater Miami area and of surrounding communities is a matter of very great concern, and WHEREAS, the factors entering into a possible shortage of water for municipal purposes involves the question of soil con- servation, flood control, temperature control, fire control and the preservation of wild life in the Everglades area, and WHEREAS, recognition of these factors indicates the neces- sity for an exhaustive survey of the southeastern portion of the Florida peninsula to determine the availability of potable water and suitable means of controlling ground water levels in the Everglades, and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the different governmental units in the Greater Miami area and in adjoining communities to procure Federal participation in a joint fund to finance this survey estimated to cost approximately $300,000.00, and WHEREAS, other governmental units in the Greater Miami area have appropriated substantial sums to this end, and WHEREAS, it is understood that should the Federal government participate in this survey that their participation would match dollar for dollar the contributions of the local communities, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the National Resources Commit- tee be and they are hereby requested to undertake a survey as above described, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in the event a survey is under- taken by the said National Resources Committee, participating on a dollar for dollar basis, that the City of Miami Beach agrees herewith to participate in the cost of said survey in an amount not to exceed $30,000,00, and agrees that $5,000,00 will be al— located from current funis during the fiscal year ending October 31, 1939 , that $15,000,00 will be allocated in the appropriation ordinance for the fiscal year beginning November 1, 1939, and that $10,000,00 will be allocated in the appropriation ordinance for the fiscal year beginning November 1, 1940, PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of June, A.
