SUBJECT: 2018 Cheat the Reaper Event
This Letter to Commission is to cordially invite you to the annual "Cheat the Reaper" event at
Miami Beach Senior High School on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. where the students will
be able to see their fellow students removed from an accident scene caused by drinking and
driving. The event will take place in the back of the high school, in the Driver's Education
parking lot. Approximately five hundred students will be in attendance for the event.
The event will consist of a small 30 minute presentation inside the school auditorium where
student actors will pretend to drink prior to heading out for the night. The entire group of
students will then move outside to the parking area where the vehicles will be set up with
student actors in place at the scene of the accident. The Police and Fire Departments will be
called out to respond to the scene, where the Police Department will secure the scene and
perform the sobriety test on the driver and the arrest. The Fire Department will extricate the
victims and transport the victims as part of the scenario. One of the students will be declared
dead on arrival and the Funeral Attendants will carry the body away in a hearse to close the
program.
