May 26, 1886 Henry Lum and Laura Lum for sum of $289 give to Henry Robinson of New York and Charles H. Sairn (spelling?) of Miami in Townships 53 and 54 "commencing on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean (as marked by original survey) 85 rods north of the south line of Township 53, Range 42 East in Section 34, and running thence west to a line running north and south through the center of the southwest quarter of Section 34 as above; running thence to south line of Twp 53; thence west on said line to Biscayne Bay; thence following the line of said bay south a sufficient distance in Twp 54 to make 120 acres by following a line due east to the Atlantic Ocean; thence along said line to ocean; thence north, following line of said ocean shore to the place of beginning. . . Also commencing on the shore of said Atlantic Ocean as above 25 rods north of the south line of Section 2 in Township 54 as above,and running thence north along said ocean shore a sufficient distance to make 154 acres by following a line due west to Biscayne Bay; thence south along said bay to a point due west from the point of startup; l thence east to the place of beginning, making 154 acres. " (This transaction was executed in Monmouth County, New Jersey. ) Jan. 22, 1887 The United States of America deeds public lands to Henry Lum the West half of the Southeast quarter of Section 25, and the West half of the Northeast quarter of section 36 in Township 53 South of Range 41 , containing 160 acres. (These two pieces of contiguous property would be bounded on the west by today 's NW 7th Avenue, on the South by NW 7th Street, on the north by NW 36 St. and on the east by approximately NW Ave. ) Certificate No. 8786. May 13, 1889 Effie Lum and Charles Lum sell for $1 to Henry Lum in Township 53, (No Range?) "commencing at a stake 5 chains and 50 links west of the southeast corner, etc. etc. (Henry, in turn, sells this land back to Effie only six months later. See below. ) Dec. 16, 1889 Henry and Laura Lum sell for $1 to Effie Lum property "commencing at a stake five chains and 50 links west of the Southeast corner of the northeast quarter of the southwest quarter of Section 35 of Township 53, south of Range 41 and run from said stake north six chains, thence west 10 chains and 58 links, thence south 3 chains and 80 links to Miami River , thence along thenorth bank of Miami River in a southeqasterly direction 5 chains and 15 links, thence east 6 chains to place of beginning and containing 5 acres more or less. " (This would appear to be part of the property Lum bought in March 1885. ) Jan. 14, 1893 Michael Oxer sells to Henry Lum for $25 property in Township 53 South, Range 42 East, Section 31 "beginning at a mean high water mark on the west shore of Biscayne Bay in said Section 31 at the point of intersection of the north boundary of the James Hagan Donation (Section unreadable) with the water of Biscayne Bay and running thence west along said north boundary through said Section 31 intersection 18 chains and 97 1/2 links, and from thence north 3 chains and 16 1/4 links, and from thence east on a line parallel to the said north boundary of said north Donation 18 chains and 97 1/2 links to the shore of Biscayne Bay and from then so alongside said shore south 3 chains and 16 1/4 links to the place of beginning, containing 6 acres, more or less, with all riparian rights and privileges. " April 26, 1894 Mary McFarlane sells to Mary Lum for $75 propery in Township 54 South, Range 41 East in Section 20 "commencing at the southeast corner of the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter of Section 20 . . . and run north 10 chains, thence west 5 chains, thence south 10 chains, thence east 5 chains to place of beginning, and containing five acres. " (This would be in today 's Coral Gables bounded on the south by Sunset, on the east by approximately Erwin Road, on the north by approximately Hardee Road, on the west by approximately by Maynada. " END DADE DEEDS WITH NAME LUM DADE COUNTY DEEDS WITH HENRY LUM AS GRANTEE Note: despite seeking grantee status, records somehow interspersed with grantor records; thus there appears several instance of Lum sales. Feb. 13, 1884 The United States of America deeds public lands to Henry Lum the Southeast quarter of Section 24 in Township 53 South, 42 East 100 acres and 88/100th of an acre. This section is on the mainland, bounded on the north by NW 54 Street, on the south by NW 36 Street, on the west by NW 12 Ave and on the east by North Miami Ave. The southeast quarter would be bounded on the east by North Miami Ave. , on the south by NW 36 Street, on the north by approximately NW 46 Street and on the west by approximately 1-95. (That would be today 's Design District. ) Certificate No. 4081 . March 23, 1885 State deeds 160 acres of land in Township 53 South, Range 41 East at eighty cents per acre. Land is described as Southwest quarter of the Northeast quarter; the Southeast quarter of the Northwest quarter; the Northwest quarter of the Southeast quarter; and the Northeast quarter of the Southwest quarter of Section 35. This township is located in today 's City of Miami between Northwest 20th Street and Northwest 7th Street and between Northwest 7th Avenue and Northwest 17th Avenue. This would appear to encompass the entire hospital and civic center. Deed No. 12. 837 Nov. 17, 1885 Ezra and Sarah Osborne, Elnathan Field and Annie together sell , for $451 , sell property to Henry Lum in all of fractional sections 3 & 4 of Township 54 South Range 42 East containing 318 acres and 50 hundreths as described in Deed 13. 118 ' B ' . (This is south of 11th Street and north of Biscayne street. ) Also sold by them to Lum was the east half of the Southwest quarter of Section 34 in Township 53 South of Range 42 East , containing 80 acres, described in Deed 11572.
