Resolution 5586 RESOLUTION NO. 5586
WHEREAS, it is proposed to organize and operate a con-
solidated Dade County Health Unit, the plans for which were
recently outlined to the City Council by County Commissioner
C . H. Crandon and by officers of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, many of the functions now being performed by the
municipalities of the County will be taken over by said County
Health Unit thus relieving the City of Miami Beach and other
Municipalities from the expense of such function; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach believes
that the health problems of any portion of the County are of con-
cern to each municipality therein; and
WHEREAS, it is proposed that the County Health Unit will
commence operations on August 1st, 1942, and has requested
financial assistance from the City of I: iami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the total cost to the City of h"iami Beach for the
performance of those certain functions in connection with health
in said City during the period commencing August 1st, 1942, and
ending July 31st, 1943, the duty of performance of which will be
assumed by said County Health Unit, has been estimated by the
City Manager at $21,350.00.
NOW, THEHEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the sum of $21 350.00
be and the same is hereby appropriated as the contribution of said
City to said Dade County Health Unit for said City' s share of the
operation of said County Unit for the first year of its operation;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, go on record as being opposed to any act of
the legislature which will impose upon the property located in
Miami Beach, Florida, a tax for the operation of said County
Health Unit out of proportion to the direct benefits which will
be received by and the direct expenditures which will be made in
said Municipality by said Dade County Health Unit.
