Resolution 5616 RESOLUTION NO. 5616 WHEREAS, on the 2nd day of December, A. D. 1942, the City Council granted permission to the Estate of the late Dr. Joseph H. Adams to allow the former home of Dr. Adams, located on Belle Isle, to be used for church purposes; and Wh REAS, prior to the granting of the said permission it had been made to appear to the City Council that there was a great need for a place of worship for the members of our Armed Forces of the Episcopal Faith now stationed at Miami Beach, the reality of such need having since been questioned and the question having thereupon been re-opened; and WHEREAS, it has now been clearly shown that there is a great shortage of Army Chaplains in the Miami Beach area to care for the religious needs of the many thousands of soldiers stationed here; that many of such soldiers are Episcopalians; that there is no established Episcopal Church in the City and that in order for soldiers stationed at Miami Beach to attend Episcopal services elsewhere, passes must be obtained and many miles travelled, NOW, TUERE ORE, BE 1T RESOLVED, that by reason of the foregoing and in order to meet a war time emergency and to pro- vide a decent, proper and adequate place of worship for the mem- bers of our Armed Forces of the Episcopal Faith, the permission heretofore granted to establish such a place of worship on the property now known as the Adams Estate on Belle Isle, be and the same is hereby ratified and re-affirmed. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that when it is made clearly to appear to the City Council that the need by the soldiers of this area for this place of worship no longer exists then the permis- sion hereby granted shall cease and be revoked; provided, however, that under no circumstances shall the permission hereby granted extend beyond the duration of the war.
