Resolution 5617 RESOLUTION NO. 5617
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami beach,
Florida, is advised that a vacancy will exist in the office
of Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern
District of Florida; and
4H REAS, it appears that this office has not been held by
a resident of the lower East Coast since the appointment in 1872
by President Grant of hon. James W. Locke of Key West, Florida;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council feels that recognition should be
given this area by the selection of a resident thereof for judi-
cial preferment; and
WHEREAS, Judge Paul D. Barns has been Circuit Court Judge
of Dade and Monroe Counties for many years and has discharged the
duties of that office with ability and integrity,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, do hereby endorse Judge Paul D.
Barns for appointment to such judgeship, and respectfully request
that Senators Claude Pepper and C. 0. Andrews favorably recommend
Judge Paul D. Barns for appointment as United States District Court
Judge.
