Resolution 5899 RESOLUTION NO. 5899 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE WAR DEPARTMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO REGU- LATE THE OPERATION OF THE EAST DRAWBRIDGE OF THE McARTHUR CAUSEWAY, FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE COUNTY CAUSEWAY. WHEREAS, exhaustive traffic surveys have shown that during the Winter months more than 40,000 motor vehicles travel each day on the McArthur Causeway, formerly known as the County Causeway, and connecting the City of Miami Beach with the City of Miami, and that the East drawbridge of said causeway, during said Winter months, is opened more than forty (40) times each day, thereby delaying more than 6,000 motor vehicles each day; and WHEREAS, the said openings of the drawbridge have resulted in long, confusing and hazardous delays to vehicular traffic and have interfered with the proper functioning of the Police, Fire and other Municipal Departments, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the War Department of the United States of America be and they are hereby requested to regu- late the operation of the East drawbridge of the McArthur Causeway, formerly known as the County Causeway, by closing it to water traf- fic during the vehicular traffic peak hours for a part of the Winter months.
