Resolution 6166 RESOLUTION NO. 6166
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is presently located in and
is a part of the County of Dade, State of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the taxpayers of the City of Miami Beach pay a dispro-
portionate share of the tax funds raised by the County of Dade, as
compared to the benefits received by such City from Dade County; and
WHEREAS, the valuation of property in the City of Miami Beach
and the number of residents of the City of Miami Beach are such as to
entitle the people of the City of Miami Beach to self-government and
home-rule as a political entity and subdivision of the State of Florida;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is so situated geographically
as to be separated from the bulk of Dade County by Biscayne Bay and
its tributary waterways; and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Miami Beach, being conscious
and cognizant of all of the foregoing, have spontaneously started a
determined movement to separate themselves from the County of Dade
and to obtain for themselves the fruits and benefits of self-government
and home-rule;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the duly elected repre-
sentatives of the people of the City of Miami Beach, constituting and
acting as the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, do by these
presents go on record as favoring the creation of a new county within
the State of Florida, separate and apart from Dade County, which new
county shall embrace within its geographical limits the corporate
limits of the City of Miami Beach.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be for-
warded forthwith to the Governor, to each member of the Senate and House
of Representatives of the State of Florida, and to the Dade County
Commissioners.
