In Memoriam
THE HONORABLE JOHN H. LEVI
Who Served Continuously as an Elected Representative
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, from October 28th,
1918 to June +th, 19+7
DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON JANUARY 26TH, 19+8
We, the Members of the City Council of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, find it extremely difficult to pay a proper and fitting
tribute to our former friend and colleague, John H. Levi, a man whose
entire time and energy has been devoted, for well over a quarter
century, to the establishment and development of our City.
To work and live with "John", with his friendly understanding
and timely wit, in the building of a City structure and the adminis-
tration of its affairs, has been a rare privilege and an inspiration
for some of our members and city officials ; in that his devotion to
ideals which were always for the ultimate best interests of our fast-
growing City, and his strict adherence to plans and policies which
resulted in benefits to the average citizenlcould not help but impress
and influence those with whom he labored.
To measure the worth of his long civic counsel, and the impact
of the personality and the character of such a man on this community,
is incalculable and impossible of expression in mere words.
Hence, suffice it to say that our grief at his passing is simple,
but sincere; it is that measure of sorrow which surpasses the bounds
of sorrow and must be measured in more than tears.
We know that the legion of friends who, withus, loved and
respected him in life, now join with us, one and all, in this, our
sincere tribute to the memory of our friend "John".
This measure is formally adopted by this Body in regular session
assembled, on this 28th day of January, A. D. 19+8.
