While a portion of the collection is always maintained in storage, additional works are still in storage while adjustments to the Museum's climate control system are finalized. Commission Memo The Fortress Corp. Februrary 5, 2003 Page 2 of 2 ANALYSIS: Regardless of the above projected Bass Museum completion dates, it is recommended that a Standing Order be issued for the required storage, from October 2002 through September 30, 2003, in the amount of $74,295. While the FY2003 budget included $40,000 for storage, funding for the $34,295 additional cost will be realized from line item budget savings that will be re-allocated. While a portion of the Bass collection has been transferred and is being exhibited in the Museum, the majority of the collection still remains in storage and will be moved into the Bass Museum art storage area as corrective repair work is completed. The Museum will continue to utilize a smaller area at the Fortress, which will cost approximately $3,500 per month. It is therefore the recommendation of the Administration that the Mayor and City Commission waive by 5/7ths vote, the formal competitive bidding requirements and approve the use of The Fortress-Miami Corp., in a not to exceed amount of $74,295, for the storage of the Bass Museum's permanent collection and for ongoing storage needs.
