Resolution 6584 RESOLUTION NO. 6584
The City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Dade County,
Florida, convened in regular meeting on the 2nd day of June, 1948
adopted the following resolution:
WHEREAS, the people of Israel justified before God and Man
have declared their independence in the Land of Israel on May 15,
1948, and
WHEREAS, President Truman has accorded prompt recognition to
the new State of Israel as have freedom loving people everywhere,
and
WHEREAS, the infamous Bevin of Britan has conspired with Arab
Chieftains and feudal Lords to suppress the new born State of Israel
with fire and sword and ruthless mercenaries much reminiscent of
America' s struggle for independence from British tyranny in 1776,
and
WHEREAS, the Citizens of Miami Beach, Florida, overwhelmingly
support the aims and aspirations of the brave men of Israel ih the
Land of Israel,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, as follows:
1. Let America the land of the free and the home of the brave,
true to its noblest traditions, now and at once exert every
effort and extend every means for the protection and preservation
of the New State of Israel and thereby set a glorious example for
the nations of the world.
2. Let these our deep convictions and earnest wishes for
prompt and vigorous action in behalf of the State of Israel
be known by transmitting certified copies of this resolution to the
President of the United States, to Senator Claude Pepper, to Senator
Spessard L. Holland, to Congressman George Smathers and to Mr.
Trygve Lie, Secretary General of the United Nations Organization.
PASSED and ADOPTED at Miami Beach, Florida, this 2nd day of
June, 1948.
