Morales, City Manager DATE: June 19, 2018 LETTER TO COMMISSION s •mmission SUBJECT: FDOT SRA1A/MACARTHUR CALSEWAY FLASHING BEACONS The purpose of this Letter To Commission (LTC) is to provide information on the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) MacArthur Causeway Beacon Installation Project. In April 2018, FDOT commenced a project consisting of the installation of flashing beacons along eastbound MacArthur Causeway approaching Alton Road. Once completed, the flashing beacons will be coordinated to flash when the signal at Alton Road/5th Street is red for eastbound SRA1A/MacArthur Causeway. FDOT has conducted sporadic lane closures on MacArthur Causeway and on Alton Road south of 5th Street. Over the course of this week, the contractor will be trenching the eastbound right turn lane at the intersection of Alton Road and 5th Street to install an electrical conduit for the beacon. The lane closure for this work will occur between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The project is scheduled to finish in August 2018. Additionally, FDOT has completed the design and is scheduling the installation of similar beacons along eastbound and westbound MacArthur Causeway in advance of the intersection with Fountain Street (Palm Island). FDOT will be providing the City with an anticipated start date, duration, and anticipated lane closure times once the project has been scheduled. Additional updates will be provided via LTC. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
