Ed Levitt - (931-0781) born Miami Beach 1930. Father built or worked on
first streelpier. live whole life on Beach. Lived Opa-loakca a whilg, now

Dick Kumble - born NYC, came to Miami in 1943. Father was a waiter in
hotels, struggled in summers.

Johnson: Beach was small community. Weren't aware of tourists, except at
hotels. Not aware of night life, or casinos. Names clubs: Royal Palm, Sunny
Isles, Blue Heron, Mamma Leone ' s near Gulfstream, Old Plantation; only
building on Hallandale Beach boulevard. Lived on Lincoln Court, west end of
Lincoln Road by the bay. There were private homes there, now they are condos.
Wilif-T5Lif—Mf1Mirat a lot before they built bridge to Virginia Key. We would go
on weekends and camp. Never saw another boat. You could catch anything in the
bay. Went to Central Beach Elementary.
Levi.l We slept on the beach; Haulover, Sunny Islaes . In a tent. Went to
Central Beach Elementary.

Rumble: Dolly' s (Dolly Madison Ice Cream) . Parents owned. Epanola Way, served
ice cream, hot dogs. Kumbles bought in 1949. Breakfast spot. Hangout for high
school . Family oiwned 1949-53, sold to Joe Bishop.

Jitneys: Grey and black for colored; yellow and green for whites.
Johnson: We could catch all the stone crab and lobster off our sea wall. I
didn't like them; ugly. Gave to the maid.
Levitt: Remembers old Joe ' s. Chef' s name was Seabreeze (early 30s) ; Joe ' s was
known for its steak.

Johnson: Was involved in design of 011ie ' s trolley. 47 trolleys in 11 states
in one year. Jimmy' s Just-a-Hobby. No prices on menu, charged whetever felt
like. Original Lum' s: Hard boiled eggs: "Lum Dogs" 41st and Sheridan

Johnson: Family sold home in 1966-67 . 7 bed/7 bath. Vic bought home in El
Portal . War years: marching thru street, POWs, 15th and Alton.
Always knew where troops were going. If truckload went by with duffle bags and
men were wearing winter clothest, knew they were going to the south pacific.
Watched PT boats going out Govt Cub.
