COMMUNITY RELATIONS BOARD (CRB) REAPPOINTMENTS
Date: January 9, 2003
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to advise the Mayor and Commissioners of
two (2) reappointments to the City's Community Relations Board. On December 19,
2001, the City Commission passed an ordinance amending the membership of the
Community Relations Board to include four (4) additional members, three (3) of which
appointed by the City Manager and an ex-officio member who serves on the Miami-Dade
County Community Relations Board. I made three (3) appointments a shod time
afterwards.
On December 31, 2002, two (2) of these appointments expired. I would like to reappoint
both of the following members to continue serving on the CRB:
Roymi Membiela lives and works in North Beach and owns her own marketing
communications firm specializing in the areas of local government, transportation,
technology, travel/hospitality and education. Ms. Membiela previously served as the
Director of New Business and Hispanic Market Development for The Miami Herald. Ms.
Membiela was recently elected as the CRB's new chair. Her new term runs through
December 31, 2004.
Octavio "Joe" Zubizarreta is the Chief Operating Officer for Zubi Advertising, a firm
specializing in Hispanic marketing and advertising. Mr. Zubizarreta lives in the Middle
Beach area. His new term runs through December 31, 2004.
Shelly Bell, an editorial associate at Miami-Dade Community College and resident who
lives in South Beach, will continue serving her term which expires in December 31,
2003.
In addition, Miami-Dade County has appointed Carolyn A. Boyce, a member of the
County's CRB, to serve as the County's representative and as an ex-officio member of
the City's CRB.
