This letter to the Commission is to inform the Mayor and City Commission of a commercial
burglary crime trend that has been identified and the status of the on-going investigation by
the Police Department.
Between November 27, 2002, to January 13, 2003, there have been a total of seventeen
(17) commercial burglaries throughout our City, exclusively in our North and South
Districts. In the majority of the burglaries, the offender(s) have gained entry to the
businesses by breaking in through the roof, between the hours of 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. In all
of the listed incidents, the offender(s) targets the cash register.
The Police Department is dedicating an increased amount of personnel and technology to
apprehend the person(s) responsible for the burglaries. These resoumes include a task
force staffed with Officers from the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions. In
addition, a multitude of investigative strategies are being deployed.
I will apprise you of any developments as the Police Department continues its strategy and
modifies its efforts appropriately.
