CRIME STATISTICS ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2002

This Letter to the Commission is to provide the Mayor and City Commission of the Florida
Uniform Crime Report (UCR) statistics for Part 1 Crimes as indexed annually, for the year
2002. Part 1 Crimes include Homicide, Forcible Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault,
Burglary, Larceny and Motor Vehicle Thefts.
We are pleased to report that, overall, Part 1 crimes decreased -7.4% in the year 2002.
This follows a decrease of -9.5% in the prior year.
Some highlights from the UCR Report are:
· The total number of crimes reported decreased -7.4%
· The total number of violent crimes reported decreased -13.2%
· The total number of non-violent crimes reported decreased -6. 7%
· The total number of Aggravated Assaults decreased -26%
· The total number of Burglaries decreased -8.9%
· The total number of Larcenies decreased -5.2%
· The total number of Auto Thefts decreased-Il.6%
· The total number of Sexual Batteries decreased -18.4%
The reduction is reflected by a decrease of 827 fewer Part I crimes reported during 2002
as compared to the year 2001.
Enclosed is a chart that represents the last six (6) years of crime statistics. These statistics
show that in 2002 there was a continuation of the downward trend of crime in the City. In
deed, the number of crimes has decreased-38,34% since 1996.
Please join me in congratulating Chief Donald De Lucca and all the men and women of the
Police Department for their continued dedication to our City.
