LTC 52-2003 CITY OF MIAMI BEACH Office of the City Manager Letter to Commission .- To: From: SubJect: Mayor David Dermer and Members of the City Commission Jorge M Gonzalez ~ ~','Yj~ nAaLgLe rpAR Kii~cz'' ~/'''' Date: February 21, 2003 As you know, parking availability in and around the vicinity is, at times, a challenge. The Miami Beach Convention Center, Jackie Gleason Theater of the Performing Arts, Lincoln Road, City Hall, and varying special events place a huge demand on the limited parking supply in the area. The Administration is implementing the following plan in order to provide a balance and ensure parking availability for all. 1700 block of Convention Center Drive Commissioners' Spaces All marked Commissioners' parking spaces will be relocated to Municipal Parking Lot No. 5F, located immediately west of City Hall. The easternmost spaces in the lot will be specifically assigned to Commissioners. Each space will be posted identifying the respective Commissioners space with a "CS-fi" designation. This designation represents the "Commissioners Seat" and corresponding "seat number". For example, the Commissioner holding Seat No. 1 will have an assigned space indicated by "CS-I" Decal Parking Only/Tow-Away Zone. Each Commissioner will be issued two (2) decals (laminated permits) to be displayed on their dashboard indicating the authority to utilize the designated space. On-Street Parking The existing Commissioners' spaces on Convention Center Ddve will be converted to visitor parking for legitimate visitors to City Hall conducting business. In an effort to promote civic activity and provide a more customer friendly environment, the area will be regulated with signs restricting parking to visitors for a one (1) hour period (maximum) to conduct business at City Hall. All existing "G" parking spaces and City Vehicle parking spaces will be removed from Convention Center Drive. The existing "Hurricane Evacuation" loading area will be placed during hurricane season (June 1 through November 30). The balance of the year, it will be designated as visitor parking. In addition, one (1) parking space will be designated for an "Employee of the Month". We deem this to be a very valuable reward to the recipient for outstanding performance or service to the City. Citywide Decals, CH (City Hall) Decals, and marked city vehicles are not permitted in these parking spaces. Vehicles violating this provision will be subject to being cited and towed at the owner's expense. Once again, the aforementioned previsions have been established to enhance your convenience and provide for greater public access to City Hall. I have instructed the Parking Department to strictly enforce these provisions in order to ensure parking availability. If you should have any further questions, comments, or concerns, please contact Saul Frances, Parking Director at extension 6483 or me at extension 6637.
