Among the accomplishments in which MDPL takes pride are: • Placing the Miami Beach Architectural Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places, • Creating the Miami Beach Community Development Corporation (MBCDC), to foster investment, encourage the growth of business, strengthen the residential community and create new jobs in Miami Beach. • Promoting the designation of local historic districts for Ocean Drive/Collins Avenue, Flamingo Park area, Espanola Way, Harding Township,Altos del Mar, the Bass Museum area, Ocean Beach, and Palm View. • Encouraging city ordinances to extend the design review process to the entire City of Miami Beach. • Guiding city efforts to institute a tough Historic Preservation Ordinance which prevents demolition of significant buildings throughout the city. • Promoting passage of a bond issue providing street, sidewalk, lighting and landscaping improvements on Ocean Drive. • Commissioning "The Art Deco District Preservation and Development Plan", the Anderson-Notter-Feingold Report, providing initial guidelines for historic preservation within a district. • Opposing demolition of the Senator, New Yorker and Biscaya hotels, and the Sender building. • Successfully advocating the retention of the facade and lobby of the Bancroft Hotel in the construction of the 1500 Ocean Drive bui!ding complex. • Encouraging restoration of the Old City Hall and Carl Fisher Clubhouse. • Successfully promoting the incorporation of the St. Moritz Hotel into the Loews Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel complex. • Organizing the First World Congress on Art Deco. • Securing an amendment to the Lanham trademarking Act which ensures that hotels in National, State and Local Historic Register Districts may maintain their historic names even if in "conflict" with an entity of the same name. • Promoting and helping to secure the designation of Barbara Baer Capitman as a "Great Floridian 2000" by the State of'Florida.
