CASABLANCA ON THE BLOCK
HOTEL DISPUTE TO BE RESOLVED WITH SALE
The Casablanca Hotel on Miami Beach, with its signature Moroccan columns,
will be auctioned Dec. 16 because of a dispute within the partnership that
owns the 45-year-old property.
The Casablanca, 6345 Collins Ave., is a 270-room, 10-story beachside
hotel.
A Dade judge ordered the sale of the hotel to resolve a dispute in the
partnership that has owned the property for more than 20 years. The feuding
partners are trustee Joel Sussman and Emily Vernon.
"It's not a distress sale at all, " said Charles Johnson, a spokesman for
Sussman. He said the hotel is operating profitably.
The Casablanca is within an area of Miami Beach that has undergone
dramatic change in the past five years. Several other beachside landmarks have
been converted from hotels to luxury condominiums, and a handful of new condos
have been built since the mid-1980s. •
The auction will be in Room 908 at the Dade County Courthouse, 140 W.
Flagler St. , at 10 a.m. Dec. 16.
