Resolution 7631 RESOLUTION NO. 7631 BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that it is deemedto be to the best interest of said City to secure the passa°e, at the 1951 Session of the State Legislature, of a bill entitled: "AN ACT AMENDING CHAPTER 23414, LAWS OF FLORIDA, SPECIAL ACTS OF 1945, ENTITLED: "AN ACT CREATING IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH A SYSTEM OF PENSIONS FOR DISABILITY AND RETIREMENT FROM SERVICE OF MEMBERS OF POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS EMPLOYED BY APPOINTMENT OR OTHERWISE IN SAID DEPARTMENT IN SAID CITY, AND TO PROVIDE A FUND IN SAID CITY TO BE KNOWN AS THE CITY PENSION FUND FOR FIREMEN AND POLICEMEN AND PROVIDING FURTHER FOR THE CREATION OF A BOARD OF TRUSTEES IN SAID CITY, PRESCRIBING THE POWERS AND DUTIES OF SUCH BOARD, PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF CERTAIN SUMS TO ALL PERSONS EMPLOYED IN THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS IN SAID CITY AS SHALL i AVE RETIRED AND HAVE BEEN RETIRED AND THEIR DEPENDENTS, TO FURTHER PRESCRIBE THE QUALIFICATIONS AS TO WHO SHALL bE ELIGIBLE AND WHO SHALL RECEIVE A PENSION UNDER THIS ACT; PROVIDING FOR THE INVEST- MENT AND SAFEKEEPING OF THE FUNDS CREATED UNDER THIS ACT; PROVIDING FOR THE REGULATION OF THE SUB- J4CT OF PENSIONS TO ALL PERSONS ENTITLED TO RECEIVE THE SAME AND TO PROVIDE RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE FUND CREATED HEREUNDER; PROVIDING FOR TUE LEVY OF AD VALOREM AND EXCISE TAXES FOR SAID PENSION FUND; AND PROVIDING FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF THIS AGT; AND PROVIDING FOR THE SUB- MISSION OF SAID ACT TO A REFERENDUM OF THE QUALI- FIEDD VOTERS OF SAID CITY" ; PROVIDING FOR THE RETURN TO MEMBERS OF EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTIONS TOGETHER WITH INTEREST AND FOR THE INCLUSION TOWARD CREDITABLE PENSIO>> SERVICE TIME OF THE PERIOD OF TIME MEMBERS WORK FOR THE CITY OTHER. THAN IN THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND DEFINING THE STATUS OF MEMBERS WHO SERVE IN THE MILITARY SERVICE WHILE THE UNITED STATES IS A COMBATANT UNDER DIRECTION OF THE UNITED NATIONS. " BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this aesolution and of said Bill be furnished to the Honorable R. B. Gautier, Jr. , the Honorable Robert L. Floyd, the honorable George Okell, and the honorable Dante b. Fascell, Members of the Florida Legis- lature from Dade County, and that they each be respectfully requested to see that said Bill be introduced and passed at said. Session. PASSED and ADOPTED this 16th day of May, A. D. 1951.
