Morales, City Manager 9":!e( lie r 'F.' -Cor DATE: August 2, 2018 SUBJECT FDOT SRA1A/MACARTHUR CAUSEWAY EAST BRIDGE REHABILITATION PROJECT UPCOMING CLOSURES The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to provide an update on the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) MacArthur Causeway East Bridge Rehabilitation Project lane closure schedule. Given the upcoming full bridge-deck repairs and beam repairs. FDOT will be closing two (2) lanes westbound continuously for a four (4) week period starting at 10:00 PM on July 31. 2018. The work is anticipated to be completed September 2, 2018. The scope of the work includes repairs to the top and under-deck of the bridge. Due to safety concerns, no traffic can be allowed to utilize the lanes of traffic undergoing repairs. The work will begin on the westbound inside lane (closest to the median) and will extend to the middle lane (both lanes closed). Once the repairs are completed to the inside lanes, the closure will be shifted the outside lane and also include the middle lane (both lanes closed). To assist with traffic management. the City has implemented the following initiatives: • Deployment of Variable Message Boards throughout the City to inform motorists of upcoming closures • Traffic Signal timing modifications to assist with congestion • Deployment of Police Officers from 7:00AM to 8:00 PM to prevent blocking of the box by motorists Additionally, the City has been sharing information with residents, business owners, and visitors through the following media outlets. • Two E-blasts have been sent to email lists • Dedicated email was sent to all HOA contact emails • Text message sent with link to e-blast • Contacted local television stations to ask them to mention during traffic reports • Contacted Radio Stations to ask them to mention during their traffic updates • Information was sent to the GMBHA to share with their partners • Dedicated email sent to all freight loading zone permit holders • Alert posted on Nextdoor • Alert posted on Facebook • Alert posted on Twitter Given the anticipated congestion caused by the double lane closure, motorists are being advised to avoid the area and seek alternate route. City of Miami Beach staff and traffic management team are also actively monitoring other routes to deploy mitigating strategies based on congestion.
