Resolution 2018-30395RESOLUTION NO. 2018.30395 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RETROACTIVELY APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT DONATIONS AND SPONSORSHIPS FROM COCA - COLA, T- MOBILE, ZICO COCONUT WATER, MB SUNCARE, NOBE YOGA, TERRA GROUP, LLC., HOTWIRE COMMUNICATIONS, LLC., AND LYFT, INC., IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $28,500 FOR THE CITY'S 2018 "FIRE ON THE FOURTH" EVENT ( "EVENT "), AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO APPROPRIATE SUCH SPONSORSHIP FUNDS AND DONATIONS TO MAKE ANY NECESSARY REIMBURSEMENTS AND /OR EXPENDITURES IN FURTHERANCE OF AND CONSISTENT WITH THE EVENT. WHEREAS, in 1991, the City of Miami Beach launched the first 4th of July Event as a means to attract more visitors to the City; and WHEREAS, this Event has been carried out year- after -year as a vehicle to continue to bring more visitors to the City; and WHEREAS, the Event includes all -day activities, performances for the public, and a fireworks show, all of which are free of charge to the public; and WHEREAS, in furtherance of the City's July 4th 2018 "Fire on the Fourth" event ( "Event "), sponsorships were made by the following entities to the City in the cumulative amount of $28,500.00: o Coca -Cola, o T- Mobile, o Zico Coconut Water, o MB Suncare, o Nobe Yoga, o Terra Group, LLC., o Hotwire Communications, LLC., and o Lyft, Inc.; and WHEREAS, the above- referenced entities were recognized as Event sponsors; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the retroactive approval of the sponsorships and acceptance of the donations and sponsorship funds, in the total amount of $28,500.00, from the above- named sponsors for the City's July 4, 2018 Event; and WHEREAS, the City Administration further recommends that the Mayor and City Commission approve the donations and sponsorships and authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to appropriate such sponsorship funds and donations to make any necessary reimbursements and /or expenditures in furtherance of and consistent with the City's July 4, 2018 Event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby retroactively approve and authorize the acceptance of donations and sponsorships from Coca -Cola, T- Mobile, Zico Coconut Water, MB Suncare, Nobe Yoga, Terra Group, LLC., Hotwire Communications, LLC., and Lyft, Inc., in the total amount of $28,500, for the City's July 4, 2018 Event, and further authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to appropriate such sponsorship funds and donations to make any necessary reimbursements and /or expenditures in furtherance of and consistent with the Event. RECOMMENDATION Adopt the resolution. ANALYSIS In 1991, the City of Miami Beach launched the first 4th of July event as a means to attract more visitors to the City. This event has been carried out year -after -year and includes all -day activities, live musical performances, and a fireworks show, all of which are free of charge to the public. CONCLUSION City staff worked diligently to identify funding sources to offset the costs of producing this event, and secured partnerships through donations and sponsorships totaling $28,500 from Coca -Cola, T- Mobile, Zico Coconut Water, MB Suncare, Nobe Yoga, Terra Group, LLC., Hotwire Communications, LLC., and Lyft, Inc. The City Administration recommends the retroactive approval of sponsorships and acceptance of the donations and sponsorship funds, in the total amount of $28,500, from the above named sponsors for the City's July 4th 2018 event.
