A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, REAFFIRMING A COMMITMENT
TO MAINTAIN THE HISTORICAL, RESIDENTIAL, RECREATIONAL,
AND CULTURAL CHARACTER OF THE NORTH BEACH
NEIGHBORHOOD.
WHEREAS, the area of the City known as North Beach has a unique and historic
residential charm and has traditionally been a family- oriented, residential community that engages
in many outdoor cultural and arts events, beachfront recreational activities, and youth- oriented
activities; and
WHEREAS, the North Beach neighborhood offers a variety of recreational opportunities
through its parks and recreational facilities and, in the near future, it will be the home of a new
cultural and entrepreneurial hub that will include an outdoor dining and entertainment venue —the
North Beach Yard; and
WHEREAS, in the South and Mid -Beach areas of the City alone, heightened development
has led to a current inventory of over 21,000 hotel, bed and breakfast, boarding and rooming
house, and legal short -term rental rooms; and, in the North Beach area, there is an inventory of
almost 2000 such rooms; and
WHEREAS, moreover, an anticipated Convention Center hotel will bring an additional 800
hotel rooms to the City; and
WHEREAS, since 2016, a significant amount of additional hotel rooms have received
approval by the City's Historic Preservation Board; and
WHEREAS, in addition, various hotel room incentives have also been approved in recent
years by the City Commission by virtue of the adoption of zoning incentives in the Washington
Avenue Development Regulations that have reduced minimum hotel room square footage
requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission
hereby reaffirm its commitment to maintain the historic, residential, recreational, and cultural
character of the North Beach neighborhood.
