42"d STREET GARAGE (TRANSIENT/MONTHLY PARKING) - RESPONSE
In response to your inquiry regarding instituting a parking policy requiring monthly

customers to park on the second (or h~gher levels) of the Street Garage in order to
facilitate customer parking for short-term transient users on the ground floor level, the
Parking Department has reviewed your request and recommends the following action:
The Parking Department fully ConndCurs with providing the most convenient parking for our
customers. A review of the 42 Street Garage's utilization over the last four months
yielded an average daily transient use of 37 vehicles and 450 monthlies. The garage's
capacity is 620 spaces.
The Parking Department will establish a 90-day pilot program~ effective April 1, 2003,
providing 50 parking spaces on the ground floor level of the 42na Street Garage for short-
term customer parking. There will be 23 spaces available on the Royal Palm Avenue side
and 27 spaces available on the Sheridan Avenue side. These spaces will be coned-off
each evening at 8:00 P.M. and released the following morning at 9:00 A.M. Typically, the
businesses in the corridor begin serving customers' by this time.
This approach is recommended in order to: (1) provide added convenience for short-term
customer parking by providing them the most convenient spaces and (2) minimizing any
inconvenience to monthly customers by relocating them only one level higher in the facility.
The Parking Department will monitor the use of the spaces to ensure their intended use;
maintain adequate time frames of space availability for appropriate use patterns; and
adjustments to the number of spaces should the demand increase or decrease.
