Morales, City Manager DATE: September 4, 2018 SUBJECT: Save the Date for Family Service Day 2018 The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to advise you of the date and location of Family Service Day 2018, the City's annual community service event. From 9am to 1pm on Saturday, September 29th, hundreds of volunteers will gather for a day of citywide public service anchored by events at North Beach Oceanside Park, located at 8101 Collins Avenue. Volunteers will participate in a variety of service learning projects located throughout the City including: Service Project Location Beach Clean-Up TBA Dune Restoration TBA First Aid and CPR Training (MBPD) North Beach Oceanside Park Pavilion #8105 Families Helping Families North Beach Oceanside Park All Stars North Beach Community Garden 7350 Dickens Avenue Restoration Non-Native Plant Removal North Beach Oceanside Park Intergenerational and Pro-Respect Quilt North Shore Youth Center Library Landscaping MB Regional Library, 227 22nd St. Garden Restoration Project Fienberg Fisher K-8 Center, 1420 Washington Ave. Pridelines Mural, Restoration and STI/HIV 1130 Washington Avenue Testing Homeless Outreach Throughout South Beach (555 17th Street) Last year's Family Service Day drew more than 300 volunteers of all ages and from all areas of Miami-Dade County who participated in service events throughout our community including beach clean-up, intergenerational service, school beautification and homeless outreach, among many other projects. Event participants may register online up to a week before the event at https://www.miamibeachfl.gov/city-hall/housing-and-community-development/youth-and-family- services/success-university/family-service-day/. Once registered, participants will report directly to their service site location on event day.At noon,volunteers will convene at North Beach Oceanside Park for lunch and recognition. Agency partners for the event include, but are not limited to: • Ayuda, Inc. • CareerSource South Florida/Miami Beach Center • Choices et al, Inc. • Help Me Grow • Miami Beach Regional Library • Miami Beach Feeder Pattern Schools • Miami-Dade County Public Schools • Pridelines • Teen Job Corps In addition to lunch, event participants will receive an event T-shirt. Participating school-aged youth will also receive free backpacks while supplies last. Participating community-based agencies will have information about their services and programs.
