WHEREAS there is now pending before the Legis]ature
of the State of Florida a Bill entitled:
AN ACT RELATING TO THE TRUSTEES OF THE
INTERNAL IMPROVEMENT FUND; DESIGNATING
THE SAID TRUSTEES AS THE EROSION AGENCY
OF THE STATE; PROVIDING THE POWJH TO
MAKE RULES AND REGULATIONS NECESSARY TO
CARRY OUT PURPOSES OF THIS ACT; GRANTING
THE POWER TO CREATE A DEPARTMENT TO
FACILITATE ADMINISTRATION OF THE EROSION
PROBLEM; PROVIDING THE DUTIES AND AUTHORITY
OF SAID DEPARTMENT; PROVIDING FOR THE
EXPENDITURE OF SURPLUS FUNDS ON EROSION
PROJECTS WITH CERTAIN LIMITS; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE;
and
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Miami Beach
deems the protection of the beaches within the City and the
State from erosion a matter vital to the interests of the
residents of the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS it is the understanding of the City Council
of the City of Miami Beach that the proposed Bill makes adequate
provision for municipalities to participate in the manner and
mode of controlling and regulating works for the prevention of
beach erosion within the respective municipalities and that it
is not the intent and purpose of said Bill to exclude municipalities
from their regulatory powers over such works,
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that it is in accord with the purpose
of said Bill as herein set forth, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that a certified copy of this Resolution
be transmitted to the Dade County members of the State Legislature
and that they be requested to support the passage of said Bill,
together with its companion Appropriation Bill.
