Resolution 9562 RESOLUTION NO. 9562
WHEREAS the waters of Biscayne Bay constitute one
of the most valuable assets of Dade County, and
WHEREAS tourists and residents alike resort thereto
in large numbers to engage in fishing as a form of healthful
and stimulating recreation and sport, and
WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach has at all times
recognized the importance and desirability of furnishing
adequate facilities at substantial expense for the pursuit
of such activity, not only as a tourist attraction, but also
to provide for the health and general welfare of the inhabitants
of the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS further extension of such facilities in the
near future is being favorably considered by the City Council
of the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS present facilities and reasonably anticipated
extensions are inadequate and crowded, and
WHEREAS the State Road Department is presently
constructing a bridge of considerable magnitude over said
waters of Biscayne Bay at the eastern approach of the McArthur
Causeway within the corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach,
and
WHEREAS present plans for such structure do not
contemplate the installation of any facilities permitting
fishing activity therefrom, and
WHEREAS a request for an alteration of said plans
so as to provide such facilities is timely, and the addition
of such facilities would not entail substantial expense, and
would render an inestimable service and facility for tourist
and resident alike,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Miami Beach that the State Road Department be
and it is hereby requested to install on said Bridge such
appropriate facilities thereon as will provide proper and
adequate fishing opportunities for tourist and resident,
commensurate with the desirability of Biscayne Bay for such
oourposes, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of
this resolution be transmitted to the Governor and the
Road Department of the State of Florida for their action in
the premises .
