Resolution 9665 RESOLUTION NO. 9665 WHEREAS the voters of Dade County on the 21st day of May, 1957, adopted a "Home Rule" Charter having as its primary objectives Home Rule for Dade County and its several municipalities, and to provide a means by which metro- politan government might perform services county-wide in their application which could not be effectively provided by the individual cities, and WHEREAS in implementing said Charter these primary objectives have been disregarded and ignored to the detriment of self-government in Miami Beach and other Dade County cities, and WHEREAS a referendum election has been called by the County Commissioners of Dade County to be held on February 11 , 1958, for the purpose of voting on a proposed amendment to said Charter which will preserve the autonomy of cities and yet assure the functioning of metropolitan government in accordance with the preamble of said Charter, and the Home Rule amendment, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the interpretation of the Charter as now written is inimical to the best interests of Miami Beach and its citizens and is contrary to the intent of many of the drafters of said Charter, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the said City Council approves and endorses the proposed amendment to said Charter as a means of preserving self-govern- ment by the cities and yet permitting Metro Government to fulfill its intended purpose, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens of Miami Beach be urged to go to the polls on February 11 , 1958, and vote for said amendment.
