City Manager • e4� DATE: September 27, 2018 P SUBJECT: Miami Beach Art in Public Places The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide you with an update on upcoming Art in Public Places project openings at SoundScape Park and the Miami Beach Convention Center. • OCTOBER 26, 2018, 6:30PM- Bill Fontana, SoundScape Park On Friday, October 26, 2018, the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places Program, along with the New World Symphony, will open a permanent, site specific audio and visual project by American composer and media artist Bill Fontana. Using sound as a sculptural medium, the audio work was recorded in and around Miami Beach and captures the sounds of ocean waves, mocking birds and even the underground gurgling of water pushing through Miami Beach pump stations. • DECEMBER 4, 2018, 3PM- Franz Ackermann, SE Corner of Miami Beach Convention Center On Tuesday, December 4, 2018, the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places program will unveil its first work for the new Miami Beach Convention Center, Franz Ackermann's About Sand. This dynamic, hand-painted mural is emblematic of Miami Beach's multiculturalism, international tourism and global urbanism. Art in Public Places staff continues to meet with the Miami Beach Convention Center construction and management teams on a bi-weekly basis to ensure the seamless integration of the public art projects in the Convention Center project. The site specific works by Ellen Harvey (Grand Ballroom Lobby), Joseph Kosuth (West Lobby), Elmgreen and Dragset (Convention Center Park), Joep van Lieshout (Collins Canal Park) and Sarah Morris (Northeast Exterior Walls) are being scheduled for installation as the spaces become available for the artists to install their works. The following reflects a working installation for the remaining projects: Ellen Harvey — February— March 2019* Joseph Kosuth- February— March 2019* Sarah Morris- January- March 2019* Joep van Lieshout- February- March 2019* *Work completed in coordination with the opening of the Collins Canal Park Elmgreen and Dragset- Fall 2019 At the request of the artists, construction areas must be complete prior to the installation of the artwork in order to avoid potential damages.
